Hybrid LxM Technologies: AI as a Booster for Industrie 4.0
On May 27, 2024, Prof. Wolfgang Wahlster delivered an insightful lecture Hybrid LxM Technologies: AI as a Booster for Industrie 4.0. The presentation focused on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) within industrial processes to advance Industry 4.0. Prof. Wahlster discussed hybrid AI systems that merge machine learning with symbolic AI, emphasizing their role in enhancing manufacturing, logistics, and automation. He provided real-world examples and highlighted the transformative potential of AI in creating smart factories and optimizing production efficiency.
In the next decade of Industry 4.0, a new generation of AI technologies will take smart factories to a new level. Large language models (LLMs) will be complemented by large process models (LPMs) and large action models (LAMs) so that generative neural models not only predict what to say or visualize next but also what to do next.
Professor Wolfgang Wahlster
Professor Wolfgang Wahlster is a prominent figure in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and a pioneer of AI in Germany and Europe. As the founding director of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and its long-time CEO and scientific director, he has developed DFKI into one of the world’s largest research institutions in this field.
Along with Professor Henning Kagermann and Professor Wolf-Dieter Lukas, he introduced the “Industie 4.0” concept for the 4th industrial revolution”. Their first paper on Industrie 4.0 was published in 2011, and the concept has since become a significant German export and a global standard for smart manufacturing.
The lecture took place at the Testbed in the conference room and was streamed online. Participants had the opportunity to join a discussion and guided tours of the facilities with practical demonstrations after the lecture.
